Olive Klug made their first stop on Daisy The Great’s “All You Need is Time” tour this past Wednesday at Brighton Music Hall. Olive will be supporting the duo on 18 shows across the US. The singer-songwriter, who previously opened for Jukebox the Ghost last spring, just released their single “Casting Spells” this past Friday which follows several other singles they have put out over the past few years. They also plan on releasing a full length album in the near future.

A simple presence on the stage, Olive captivated the room with just a keyboard and, for the majority of the time, an acoustic guitar. Their energy was contagious, and the whole crowd watched intently as they played songs about love and growing up among other things. I found Olive’s sound to be quite unique, with bits of folk interwoven into the songs.

For their third song, Klug welcomed back the first act of the night, local indie-rock singer Addie and her band. Addie’s set had been full of energy, and they brought this to their performance with Olive. They provided backing vocals and danced along while Klug played their guitar. Their set continued for a couple more songs before they waved bye to the crowd, leaving them to enjoy the headlining act of the night: Daisy The Great.

Mina Walker and Kelley Dugan, along with the rest of Daisy The Great’s band, closed out the night with an enthusiastic 19 song set, even bringing Olive Klug back out to perform with them for a song. The group recently released their second album “All You Need is Time” and has previously gained notoriety for their song “Record Player” in which they collaborated with pop group AJR, which they closed out their encore with.

Olive Klug is certainly an up and coming singer that you should keep your eyes on. If you’re heading to one of Daisy the Great’s shows, I highly recommend getting there early in time to enjoy their set; it’s one you won’t want to miss!
