Venezuelan funk band Los Amigos Invisibles brought the gozadera back to Boston, on the opening date of their Cool Love US Tour.
Kicking the evening off was argentinian singer songwriter Ana Schon, with a short set that was reminiscent of 90s latin alternative rock. With a softer vibe, Ana captivated the crowd with her compositions, while also being grateful for the opportunity to open the show. Many personal friends were at the barricade singing along to every word, making for a heart warming performance.
As Ana wrapped up her set, the room was already at capacity, with a diverse crowd that was predominantly latin american; the venezuelan community in Boston is always present whenever Los Amigos Invisibles are in town, and this time was no exception. The lights went down and the chatter turned into screams as the band took their places on the stage, getting the party started with “Cool Love”.
The energy in the room was vibrant, as they swiftly made their way through many fan favorites, including the iconic Jorge Spiteri cover “Amor”, and the groovy “Ultra-Funk”. Charismatic frontman Julio Briceño always made sure to get close to the fans, dancing, shaking hands, and even gifting merch to a lucky few in the front row. There was a sense of community amongst the many venezuelan immigrants in attendance, and there’s a deep connection to the songs; it’s not just about the music, it’s about reminiscing about the home that was left behind.
The night reached its peak with the first few notes of “Ponerte En Cuatro”, making every single person in the room bounce hard enough to feel the floor shaking. It was a full blown party from then on, from the funky “Cuchi-Cuchi” to the upbeat “La Que Me Gusta”. The band left the stage for a few minutes, leaving fans howling for more. The band would return with “Que Rico”, with a brief nod to Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” before moving on to the groovy “El Baile del Sobon”, mixing in snippets from classic tropical hits, bringing the party to a close.
