MAGIC CITY HIPPIES - BOSTON, MA 1.19.24
Coverage by JULIA FINOCCHIARO
Magic City Hippies certainly brought the magic to Boston’s House of Blues last week for this stop on their “Winter Tour.” The trio absolutely commanded the stage with each member (+ their amazing touring band members) playing quite the range of instruments from guitars to synths to trumpets! I wasn’t super familiar with their music, but that knowledge wasn’t necessary to have a great time dancing around to what the group labels “indie funk” songs.
As part of their 19-song set, the band took time to perform a cover of “¿Qué Pasó?,” a song from the group’s previous title as the “Robby Hunter Band” as well as “Dazed and Confused” by Jake Holmes. Of course the majority of the time was taken up by performances of their own discography ranging from their Hippie Castle EP released in 2015 to their most recent LP Water Your Garden released in 2022.
Magic City Hippies continues their North American tour through the beginning of March across the midwest and west coast before rounding out the tour in Texas. If you’re looking for some fun music to listen to, I highly recommend checking out one of their shows!
