Colorado doom metal band Khemmis took over Brighton Music Hall on the Boston stop of their “Deceiver” Tour, joined on the road by Wake and Conjurer.
Fans steadily made their way into the Allston venue, as Wake took the stage earlier in the evening, and the blasts of metal could be heard from the outside. Walking into an already packed room, British metal band Conjurer would take over shortly after. Both bands brought the aggressive energy needed to set the stage for the rest of the night, shaking the entire room to its core. Even Khemmis’ guitarist Ben Hutcherson snuck out to catch some of Conjurer’s set.
As the lights went down, the band slowly took their spots in the shadows, as they kicked in with “Avernal Gate”, off their latest album, Deceiver. Hailing from Denver, Khemmis returned to Boston shortly after their successful run opening for Trivium late last year, and fans were excited to see them once more. The band reciprocated greatly, often playing right at the edge of the stage, as well as jumping into the barricade, all to get as close as possible to the crowd.
The set was a mix of older tracks, as well as some of the newest material; from the epic “The Bereaved” to the melodic “Sigil”, Khemmis kept the energy at its highest through the entire evening, with intricate speed and some iconic synchronized headbanging. The ominous “A Conversation with Death” brought the epic journey to a close, proving that the legacy of doom metal is alive, and in the right hands.
