IDLES / GUSTAF 10.12.21
Words and Photos By Adam Gerhold
IDLES stormed through the House of Blues in Boston last Tuesday with support from NY’s, Gustaf, and what a blast. The HOB was packed to the brim with eager fans, ready to burst with excitement, and without question, no one left there that night unsatisfied.
Gustaf opened the night right with their infectious art-punk sound. I have to admit, I was unfamiliar with the band, but I was almost instantly hooked with their stage presence, the amount of fun they were having, and their sound. Think of a more experimental Parquest Courts at times mixed with Devo urgency. Definitely something to get into.
IDLES left nothing to be imagined. Their explosive energy and intensity was palpable. The crowd was completely enthralled, dancing, moshing, creating a “wall of love,” embracing multiple members of the band as they ventured deep into the crowd with microphones and guitars in toe.
A 12 year old super-fan, Max, was brought onstage to sing lead on the heavy favorite, “Danny Nedelko,” which was so fun to see.
They opened with the building and brooding “Colossus” and ended the set with an all out epic display with Gustaf and some other taking the stage with extra drums, guitars, and dance.
This was by far the funnest show I have been too in a LONG time and IDLES is by far the funnest band I have been able to capture.
Do not miss them on the rest of tour!
Please!!
