It was a night filled with rock and roll at the Paradise, as singer-songwriter ZZ Ward took over the intimate venue to wrap up the weekend, as part of her One Hell of a Night Tour. Joining her on the road is country singer Jamie Wyatt.
Upon walking through the doors, the vibe in the room is cool, in a sea of hats and bell bottoms. Ward’s fans gathered early and had the chance to see singer Jamie Wyatt, with a short but compelling set. In classic country attire, Wyatt sat at her keyboard and kicked the evening off with “Feel Good”, off her upcoming new album. Her captivating energy and charming attitude won over the crowd, as she focused on new material, as well as a powerful cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Ramble On”.
Anticipation was palpable amongst fans, who had waited for a long time to see Ward live again. As the lights went down, a vintage radio lit up on stage, as the rest of the band took their spots. The songstress emerged and went right into “Forget About Us” and “Baby Don’t”. Ward’s charm immediately wrapped the crowd in her spell, as she mentioned the previously scheduled show that was “just around the corner”, before everything shut down. The evening went by like lightning, with a bit of a break in between for a stripped down, acoustic set.
ZZ Ward is as charismatic as ever, as she shares many stories: from writing songs on the road to working on her new record and going entirely independent, fans are always able to connect to the music, as well as the singer. It was now time for the blues segment, as she grabbed her harmonica and took on the classics. “I have a very special place in my heart for the blues”, says Ward, putting her heart and soul into the greats that inspired her. Many couples were seen slow dancing on the floor, and others screamed in awe of the filthy riffs coming from the stage.
As the electric evening came to a close, one thing is certain: not only is rock and roll alive and well, it continues to bring in a broader audience that is just as dedicated, and the connection Ward has with her fans comes to life when she’s on stage. Make sure to catch her on the road as the One Hell of a Night Tour continues this fall.
