TOOL / THE ACID HELPS 2.19.2022

Words and Photos By Maria A. Mata

L.A prog metal masters Tool mesmerized Boston as they continue their extended Fear Inoculum US tour. After an energetic set by openers The Acid Helps, the band led by Manyard James Keenan created an atmospheric, ethereal experience that stimulated all senses. Manyard’s stage presence is powerful, even in the shadows, with an almost animalistic feel, like a hunter after its prey. From “Fear Inoculum” to classics such as “The Pot” and “Opiate”, Tool grabs hold of the largest of audiences and does not let go until the very end.

With a spectacular laser show, moody lighting and plenty of intricate graphics, the show evokes intense emotions, and with its no-cellphones policy, the audience are completely immersed in the experience from the inside out. The lack of screens in the crowd is a welcome, refreshing sight, in an era where everything is recorded and projected in real time out into the world.

No words or visuals will fully describe a Tool show, so make sure to experience the Fear Inoculum Tour for yourself.
