MANNEQUIN PUSSY - BOSTON, MA 5.14.24

Coverage by Kimmy Curry

Punk-rock band Mannequin Pussy brought their I Got Heaven Tour to Boston for two sold-out nights at the Sinclair! The band recently put out their fourth record, also titled "I Got Heaven," in March of this year. As with many bands, their lineup has rotated over time, but frontwoman Marisa Dabice and bassist Colins "Bear" Regisford have been steadfast long-time members of Mannequin Pussy.

Dabice brings a theatrical attitude to her punk-inspired performance, entering the stage in a floor-length gown that she spun around in while pouring her heart out into the microphone. The band's sound ranges in genre from softer indie rock ballads to more hardcore punk anthems with noisy guitar and screaming vocals. They played most of the tracks from their most recent album as well as songs from the previous record, "Patience." Energy radiated from the whole band and inspired liveliness from the crowd in the beloved Harvard Square venue.

Authenticity is also a quality that sets Mannequin Pussy apart as a beacon of indie punk excellence. Dabice takes time in the set to remark openly on current political matters, and the band displays a Palestinian flag on stage in support of the liberation movement. While many musical acts shy away from politics, Mannequin Pussy has always been proud of not censoring their values to appeal to a broader audience. Dabice has discussed this on social media in response to past pressures to change the name of the band.

A band full of talented musicians and fresh voices in indie punk, Mannequin Pussy's uniquely vibrant spirit makes them an unmissable act! Their I Got Heaven Tour continues across North America through the rest of May, before they play a run of festivals throughout the summer.
