FONTAINES D.C. - BOSTON, MA 10.13.24

Maybe Romance Is A Place…
I think it is, and I could be so bold, I think it’s at a Fontaines D.C. show. Lit in neon and sporting a few pairs of track pants, black boots, and a winter hat, the lads swooned a lustful audience into bliss. Singer Grain Chatter moved across the stage like a ballroom dance floor. Or a London rave scene. Maybe? I’ve never been. But one can imagine seeing the smooth and effortless movements as the band composed a flawless performance with tracks like “Romance,” Jackie Down The Line,” “Here’s The Thing,” and ending the set with a beautiful execution of “Favorite.” All before coming back out with a three song encore including, “In The Modern World,” a tear jerking (you know you cried, liar) “I Love You,” and capping the night off with the crowd going wild, in a romantic way, for “Starburster.”
I thought I knew romance. I went to school for English. I know. Shut up. I thought I was a romantic at heart, and maybe I still am, but Fontaines… this is romantic. How does a band make a room of about 3500 people make you feel like it’s for you? How? I don’t know! I’m asking! Yet, they did. I felt moved. I felt butterflies. A skip of a beat, a watery eye, a full chest, a desire. For love. For companionship. For friends. For community. For peace. For more.
For one of the first times in a bit I felt, alive. Even In The Modern World.
